Transporting flowers can be a tricky business! The Transporting flowers can be a tricky business! They have to be packed so that they are secure, but not so squished together that they get ruined. If they are already in vases you need to make sure they won’t tip over while driving, footed vessels can be especially tippy. And you also want to maximize the space you have, lots of extra packaging can take up lots of room. These centrepieces were built in floral foam attached to a little dish. Once on site I just place each dish on/in the compote vase. Floral foam isn’t great for the environment so I do try and avoid it in as many designs as possible but in a situation like this it’s helpful for a few reasons: 1. There’s no water to spill while transporting. 2. The arrangements can just sit right on floor of the trunk, no need to pack in boxes or worry about vases tipping over. And I can nestle them all together to fit as many as possible. I’ve got 16 centrepieces and 2 larger ceremony arrangements here. 3. It makes it easy for the flowers to be distributed at the end of the night, especially if the vases are rentals. Guests or whoever is taking home the flowers, just needs to grab the little dish and take it home. No need to pull stems out of mechanics. #vancouverflorist #weddingflorist #floraltipsandtricks

October 1st marks 10 years since I started this li October 1st marks 10 years since I started this little flower business of mine. It’s been in 4 locations if you count the 1st few months of working from home before I had a commercial space. I’ve had the privilege of being a part of over 200 weddings. Have made countless bouquets and arrangements to celebrate birthdays, new babies and jobs, graduations and anniversaries, to send love in times of sadness, and sometimes just because. Couldn’t tell you how many stems of flowers cleaned and cut, kilometres drove to set ups and deliveries, or buckets and vases washed. I do know that I couldn’t have done it without my family and friends pitching in and cheering me on. Or you lovely internet friends following along, liking and commenting. All the wonderful customers, brides, clients and other vendors who support this little dream of a business of mine. You know who you are. Fun fact they opted to split up their ceremony and their reception, into 2 totally separate events. They had their ceremony followed by dinner with a small intimate group of special family and friends back in May, and then they had a fun cocktail party with a larger group this past weekend. Well this is definitely the fullest arch design I’ve ever done! J+N’s wedding was a 3 day affair, this colourful arch was for their ceremony and went with the bright tropical colour palette of 2 of the other events. They opted to switch it up to a different look for the reception, so stay tuned for some peeks of that! A few moments from my other long weekend wedding! A few moments from my other long weekend wedding! L+N got married at @hycroftuwcv on Friday. Things didn’t got exactly to plan as one of the vendors didn’t show up, they were supposed to provide draping for the ceremony and I was to add florals to tie back the drapes. Well since that didn’t happened we had pivot and I suggested we use some of the pieces that were supposed to go along the aisle to create an arc of flowers for the couple to stand amongst.
